Holy shit...
That was the only thought that raced through the young Genin's mind as he looked at the dog. He had heard about animals that could talk if they went through the proper training, but he had never actually seen or rather heard one talk. As he listened to the dog talk Marutake stared at him with an astonished look on his face. However as he continued to talk the look of astonishment soon changed to one of pure excitement.
"What's my story? Well...," he said as he placed his hand on his chin and put on a thoughtful appearance. Closing his eyes he thought back on his life. "I'm a Genin, have been one for two years now. My previous team disbanded after a mission went wrong, and now I'm out looking for my new teammate. Haven't had any luck though," Marutake said as he slowly opened his eyes. "And then I stumbled across possibly one of the coolest dogs I've ever seen."

Well, would you look at that? This kid was definitely different from all the other kids he had met. Astonishment and excitement were two expected emotions that were to be expected, but enough about expectations and past experiences, this was the now, and the now was talking, so listen up.
"Cooles--" Inuniku let out a faint, dog-like chuckle. It was highly aired, and didn't have a lot of noise to it, but his smile said it all. "Well, kid, it's a pleasure to meet you. Sorry to hear about your squad. I'd do something to help, but by the sound of it, you've already gotten a new one. Oh, and I'm Inuniku, by the way." He lowered his head in a bowing formation, showing his respect towards the genin.

"Inuniku, huh? Cool name," Marutake would say after nodded at the dog's bow. He then rubbed his chin as he tried to think of what to do next. The revelation of Inuniku actually being a ninken more than shifted the boy's views of the dog. There was no way that he could simply treat him as if he were some random dog. Not any more.
"I kinda have a question...," he said as he scratched the side of his head and looked away. What he was about to ask was a bit forward in his mind, but it had been something that he had been wondering about. "Uh...hm...," this question was a bit harder to ask than he first thought. A nervous chuckle escaped from him before he finally decided to just ask. "Do you have an owner?"

He watched the boy with steady and intrigued eyes. Each little nervous itch was not unnoticed. Even after living as long as he has, a whopping five years, he still didn't know everything about Humans. They always seemed to be able to surprise him, infuriate him, and even love him, and be loved by him.
"Hmm?" His fur-covered brow rose at the question. Do I have an owner? Is he trying to ask me if... no... really? His smile faded, as he thought back to the days of his boy, then his smile was brighter than ever, followed by what looked like an even more depressed frown than before. "No. Not anymore. I lost my boy a long time ago... I suppose, you can call me my own owner." He put the past behind him once more, reflecting back to Kami's words, and gave off a false smile.

That was a stupid question. Such a stupid question. Who asks a thing like that? Honestly? Regret immediately filled Marutake's mind as he watched the smile fade away from Inuniku's face. Right now he felt like a real ass. As he listened he just looked down at the ground, not sure if he had the right to even look at the dog at the moment.
"Ah...um...," he stumbled over his words. "I'm sorry to hear that. I didn't mean to imply anything...," Marutake said before looking at Inuniku and bowing his head. "I'm sorry."

Inuniku could notice the regret in Marutake's face. He shook his own head, and looked up to Marutake, turning his false smile into a real one. "No, no. It's fine. Don't worry." Deep down, Inuniku did wish to be reunited with his boy, but, did he ever want to be united with a different boy, or even a girl?
The thought never crossed his mind, but he was a ninken. A trained Jōnin. A trained Jōnin that didn't even have a team yet. An Inuzuka without a master. He was a lost pup, but he knew, he had found himself, and that was all that mattered. "Hey, cheer up. Don't worry about it." He stepped forward and nudged at Marutake's leg.

"Huh?" Marutake uttered after feeling Inuniku nudge against his leg. Blinking a few times in mild confusion he let out a light chuckle. Standing up straight he rubbed the back of his head and looked down at the dog. "My bad. I can understand how it feels to lose someone close to you..," he explained and then offered a smile.
"But being sad isn't going to solve anything, right?" the red haired genin said as he walked past the dog. Sitting down on the ground next to where he dropped his food Marutake picked up the bag. Pulling out his second to last piece of curry bread he broke it in half. "Help me finish this. I don't wanna hear my mom naggin' at me for spoiling my dinner," he said as he held out a piece for Inuniku.

Nodding, the ninken made a slight jog towards Marutake. Being sad really wasn't going to solve anything. There was nothing he could do about his boy now, and he had already met so many people on his own. So many people that he could call a friend, or someone to at least get a belly rub or a ear scratch, but this was the now, and the now had food.
"Heh... I know what you mean... only... I normally hear yelling if I eat any of the table scraps..." Accepting the piece of bread from the red haired youth, he happily chomped down on it, swallowing it in a dainty fashion, despite his wild and wolf-like appearance. There was still a touch of nobility in his fur and eyes, and Inuniku had always prided himself on that.
"Pardon me for asking... but I didn't seem to quite catch your name..." Sitting down beside him, Inuniku lifted his paw in his predictable manner, licked it a few times, then rested it down on the soft grass. He could feel the warm breeze run through his thick fur. Today really had turned out to be a good day. Less boring than he had thought, but sometimes, boring is good. Sometimes...
