Kanna covered herself defensively as the fire ball was shot. Luckily, it seemed as if his intention wasn't to use the attack on them, but rather to make her words unheard, since she could barely hear herself in the torrent of water and fire. As her protector came closer to her and successfully pushed her out of the way, she caught herself before she fell and turned to glance back at the puppet nin.
It was most likely obvious that he was using clones now. And that was still a problem if his other clone somehow managed to avoid the attack of the puppet. She glanced back to where the chain was coming from and slid two kunai with exploding tags attached from her side pouch, hurling them to the source. Directly after which, she grabbed five senbon and tossed them in the same direction. If anything, she could at least try to help.

He was no fool, his eyes were focused on the man foolishly getting in his way and on the girl who he was sent to kill. He jerked his arm and constricted the chain around the man in his puppet. His body kicked up to a downed tree and leaped from there using the explosion that would be caused by Kanna's tags as an extra boost merely scratching his already guarded legs. He had come too far to let himself be stopped by this hero and damsel.
The clone still had life flowing through his body and would make a final ditch effort in the capture. The obstacle first was going to be puppeteer shinobi who chose to make himself the main target, if it was wished then he would receive no mercy on behalf of the organization. His arm would be a sacrifice but it was well worth it, from his chained arm a force of chakra came from behind it launching the chain outward to weave around the puppet nin and his puppet strong enough to obstruct the respiratory system. The gauntlet activated a gear of sorts in the arm recalling the hand back and sacrificing the chain.
His clone leaped from the shadows ready to strike down at the shinobi and his puppet while himself was ready to strike Kanna. He used Shunshin to gain a foot in front of her and invade her space, where she was after the explosion would have been his target. He rose his hand to her to strike a death blow but paused as a weakness was evident in his eyes. His arm would shake a mere few inches from her face where he was prepared to eliminate her.
"..N-no."
The rain fell onto his face and the stress from the battle finally let the water run his mask and cloth off, his weak eyes showed and a look of doubt and regret ran along his face. The rain swept across his eyes and cheeks, he could only ask himself .... why?

Hibiku was not caught, however. What appeared to be Hibiku gasped and then dispersed in a cloud of smoke, only to show Akufu caught in the chain. Hibiku had performed the Kawarimi no Jutsu before the chain restricted fully around him, allowing him to just barely escape. He had cut it too close, and had also made the mistake of dropping the use of one puppet. He mentally scolded himself for the bad move, but moved on quickly enough.
His eyes widened in surprise when he caught the sight of his opponent near the woman. He quickly utilized two Shunshin to get up close and jab at the man's side during a tackle to keep him from getting Kanna, unbeknown to Hibiku that the man had halted his attack on her.

After the explosion of the kunai, the dust, smoke and debris made seeing the aura of the attacker difficult and by the time she realized the clone still had chakra flowing through him, whichever one it was, one of them was right in front of her. She gasped at the sudden appearance of the man and was trying to flow chakra to her hand to create the chakra scalpel, but he was already raising his hand for the final blow. It happened in what seemed just a few milliseconds; despite her and her defender's efforts, he was quick.
And then... he stopped.
In his eyes, even through the rain, she could see confusion and hesitation to want to kill her. His aura swirled now more than before, and it only proved her theory. He wasn't doing this on his own will. Someone had put him up to it, but who? She had questions, but judging from his conflicting judgments, it didn't look like he would be very cooperative.
But she wouldn't have to worry about that as the assassin was tackled down by the Suna defender. But why exactly had he stopped?

He rolled to the side and quickly flipped himself upright, he tucked his mask over his face. He had to make a retreat for now and stalk upon the woman again when the time was right. He reached behind his back grasping a handful of smoke bombs. His scent would be covered by the rain while the smoke would cover his tracks, he slammed them to the ground letting it engulf the area.
"..."
He was off, gone into what was left of the trees and the darkness. He had failed in his mission but there was now more reason to hasten the attack, the woman would be on guard and have protection.

Hibiku kept a close eye on the man as he left. The battle had ended, although Hibiku was sure that the war was not over.
"Hmph," he grunted. He reeled in his puppets and kept them close by his side. Unfortunately, the rain had soaked their container scrolls far beyond the possibility of using them. It was no matter though; Hibiku could get new ones. He double-checked the appearance of his puppets, to make sure they were not in vital need of repair (as many opponents were capable of leaving unwelcome surprises for Hibiku's puppets, as they have in the past), and then turned his full attention to the woman again.
"Here," he said, holding out his hand to help her up. He probably should have waited to check his puppets until after helping her, but the thought hadn't crossed his mind. He wasn't the best at showing affection or compassion for others, even if he did take an unusual interest in them.

Kanna watched in confusion as the assassin was forced out of the way by her savior, trying to understand just what had happened. She had undoubtedly been attacked and would have been killed if it weren't for the puppet ninja, but the assassin also seemed reluctant to carry out his mission. Why had he attacked? Who did she piss off enough for them to order a hit on her in the first place? It didn't make sense.
Sure, if he was a shinobi from an enemy country, she could see why he would attack, but it didn't seem like it was. And it was clear his target was her. But why? There were questions that needed answers. Maybe an old friend of Jin's would know.
After watching the smoke clear from the assassin's smoke bombs, she looked up to the man who had saved her as he offered his hand. "Thank you..." She accepted his hand and stood from where she had been knocked down before looking him in the eyes. "I owe you my life," she smiled softly in gratitude and apology. If it weren't for him, she would be dead.
"I'm Mizaki Kanna... a medic from Konoha."
