"Jimi..." the elderly woman croaked, rocking back and forth in her rocking chair. Her face transferred the look of complete concern. Gray eyes stared onto her son, shaking in fear of what her son was getting himself into. "Are you absolutely sure that you're ready for this?"
Jimi stood against a post of the oak bed post. He ran his hand over the short black stubble of his chin accenting his strong jaw muscles. His blue eyes stared back onto his mother in confidence. He knew what he was doing. She was his mother, true enough, but there came a point in a man's life where he can no longer listen to mommy. This was just that point in his life. "Ma... I'm sure. I already told you that."
"Boy... how can you love someone you've only seen three times?"
TWO MONTHS AGO The sun was descended over the blue sea. The sky was dyed red and orange to commemorate the occasion. His feet lay propped up on a wooden railing of the boardwalk. Hers were beside his. His arm was wrapped around her shoulder pulling her close to him. They said nothing. Nothing needed to be said. They just sat about, caught up in this beautiful moment. She placed her head onto his shoulder, and he rested his upon the top of her's. Though left unsaid, he could feel from her show of affection that she loved him just as much as he did her.
"Who would have thought I raised a man all on my own?" she said to him, her wrinkling skin sliding aside as her lips curved into a smile. "You call me once you do this, you hear?"
"I got you, Ma." Jimi returned her smile as he reached in to hug her. Her old hands ran through his dark curls, running down his face. He dropped onto his knees before her, bright eyes staring into hers. "Thank you, Ma."
"You know any man who is confident in himself has my blessing, baby." she cupped her hands around his chin, raising his face up slightly to hers. She kissed his forehead, allowing him to go on his way. As he walked to the door, she called to him once more. "Uh--Jimi... what's this girl's name?"
"Kate, Ma."
He rubbed his hands together anxiously as he sat on a bench at the entrance of the airport. He jingled the keys to his hands peering around at the wandering people. The sound of his feet tapping against the ground filtered into his ears. All of these fidgets simply showed how anxious he was. Today would be some kind of day. Hopefully, all would go as planned...

It would be an episode in polarity, feet tapping against the tile of the airport on the opposite coast. Though it was still a couple of hours until Jimi was due to arrive, Kate had a few hours to kill while her apartment was being cleaned. A sable German Shepherd lay at her feet, blue vest sprawled over his back with numerous service patches scattered across it.
Fingers fiddled at the buttons of a PSP, hitting a rapid-fire tune as the little monochromatic figures danced across the screen to the repetitive drumbeats. But her mind was nowhere near the game. Light brown eyes were glazed over in thought...
"Girl...you need to find you some local-booty." Kate's friend Kimblee mumbled with a shrug, stretched across the woman's couch as Kate set out a fresh vase, dropping an assortment of daisies, daffodils and other flowers into it. "This once-in-a-blue-moon bullshit ain't hittin' on nothin'." Kate had learned by now to ignore most of her friends. She merely turned toward Kimblee and smiled. Kimblee returned the gesture, then going back to her magazine. "Can I ask you...and don't get mad because this is just me doing me....but how do you know when a relationship like that is just that serious? I mean...you guys have been dating for a little more than a year, right? But you've only really seen one another less than ten times. How do you know what kind of person he is?" "I...just know. Deep down." Kate answered simply, stepping over her dog and joining Kimblee on the couch.
The woman looked up from her game, drawing her eyes to the large window where she could see planes taking off and coming in. Today marks number ten... she thought to herself with a smile, returning her attention to Patapon.
