Name: Hanamura (Scifo) Village: none Leader: Various History: The Hanamura clan is one shrouded in mystery, its origins unknown to most but them, heavily guarded. They appeared out of seemingly nowhere during the midst of the Shinobi War known then as the Scifo, prior to the formation of the Hidden Villages. Formidable warriors, some aligned themselves with the clans native to the countries they inhabited, fighting for the honor of the Daimyou and the kinship of the clans and eventually helping to usher in the organization of the shinobi world as it is seen today. The rest found themselves as merchants and hired hands, etching out a living without pledging a particular allegiance with one clan or country to another. This sect of the Scifo remained nomads, appreciated but never seen in one place for too long.
Nowadays, only legends seem to exist on the mainland. Those who heard stories from their grandparents and great grandparents know only of the fanged warriors who traveled with their four-legged companions and held tight to the belief that man was born of the wolf shed from the Great Spirit: the Creator. An arcane religion of unknown origins, they were the only known practitioners of such a belief, and thusly seemed to almost worship the wolves, dogs, and wolf-dog hybrids they kept company with. Whether they were merely believers, or were truly the four-legged direct descendants of the Great Spirit they believed in is still a topic of debate among those who choose to indulge themselves.
A species of wolf who possessed a certain propensity toward development of sentience, the Scifo lived peacefully scattered amongst the various countries of the world prior to the start of the wars. As the clans began to battle one another not only for superiority but for territory as well and the formation of early villages, the Scifo gradually found themselves being pushed out of their territories and homelands, into those of others, sparking battles between opposing packs and the beginnings of the diminish of the species as a whole. In addition, they found themselves being hunted by the shinobi, not only perceived as a threat to the humans, but also for food, clothing, etc. Beginning to observe the humans, over time, the remaining Scifo learned to mimic them. Through a willful manipulation of pheromones that could only be described as an early precursor to Genjutsu, they were able to appear as human to the shinobi muscling in on their homeland, thus preserving their own lives.
Many of the more elderly members of the Scifo despised the very idea of integrating with the humans, even the idea of appearing as one and some flat out refused. Much of the pack despised the idea, but saw it as necessary if they were to persevere. It would be here that many of the Scifo would go their own ways, some of them beginning to mingle with the existing clans on the land and establishing themselves as a force to be reckoned with, the rest keeping a lower-profile and out of the limelight. The ambitious Scifo fought to make their comrades and Daimyou proud, accepting them as members of their pack and even revealing their secret to them.
After the formation of the Hidden Villages, many of the Daimyou conferenced, agreeing that it would be best to begin a mass genocide of the known and affiliated Scifo. They had begun to well-establish themselves as a clan, their numbers beginning to slowly and steadily increase. Their battle-lust was beginning to inspire some degree of fear in the civilians settling within and just outside of the villages, and they were becoming seen as viable, very-real threats to organization and leadership if they ever decided to revolt. And this began the destruction of a clan. Systematically, the Scifo were killed swiftly and easily by the ones they had come to call family. The then-flourishing clan was brought to its original bare-bones population as the packs concentrated in Kusa no Kuni and Mizu no Kuni were eradicated: their loyalty to those who they had come to trust and fierce pride preventing them from running away sealing their fate.
A small number of Scifo survived the eradication under the protection of the newly-formed NAICHO. Ushered into the hidden group by the Nidaime Tsuchikage, they disappeared right along with it even after the death of the village leader and the "disassembling" of the group as they migrated to outer Tsuchi no Kuni to continue their operations. They stayed well beneath the radar and away from the eyes of any who would rather see them dead, clutching to the ideals held by the Daimyou. In honor of their new lives, new purpose and new "pack", they became the Hanamura. Many of the Scifo discovered their calling as Runners and to this day continue a faithful legacy toward the organization known as JOKAI, continuing to raise generation after generation of Runner. Some of the Hanamura, having grown distrustful even moreso of the humans, reverted to a life many had only heard of from parents and grandparents, settling back into the wildernesses of Tsuchi no Kuni and dropping their human guises. The remaining integrated into Tsuchi no Kuni and Iwagakure no Sato as civilians: merchants and other forms of hired help, unable to let go of the lives to which they had grown accustomed. As the years went by, many of the Hanamura eventually settled into some brand of normalcy and resumed their nomadic ways, traveling to other lands. The pawprints left by these stoic wanderers spread as far as the coasts of the land, seemingly disappearing, though some of these pieces of legend and lore call the island of Tsuki no Kuni home, still operating under the banner of the JOKAI.
