"Shit! Shit, shit shit!!" Kinyōji yelped, tendrils of sand beamed into the dun he was running across, threatening to impale him. His topknot bounced as he threw his arms forward, tumbling and rolling. His goggles were filled with tears, his eyes swimming in the liquid while the top of the lenses were fogged up due to the heat.
"I'm gonna' diiiiiieee~" He moaned, peeking over the dune at the fortress that was Sunagakure no Sato. A young red-headed boy stood at the gates, his hand clutched out in front of him, the sands stirring at his very whim. He knew the boy, Sabaku no Gaara, the holder of Ichibi. A real dread of a kid, really. Looked like he was on the verge of snapping all the time. Muttering a swear under his breath, there was no choice, he didn't think Suna would see him as such a threat that they would throw their greatest weapon at him.
One after the next, figures began emerging from the sand around him, exact copies of his attacker--
Not wasting time, Kinyōji flung three kunai--
The bladed projectiles dug into the Gaaras faces, sinking in and bleeding nothing but sand as they lunged forward at him. He evaded the first, ducking under it's arm, followed by the second, which he swayed around--
But the third--
"Kuh~!!" The third came down on him, pouncing him and driving him into the sand below in attempt to bury him. No matter what he did, the torrential sand drew him underneath, gripping at him like every grain was possessed.
"Is that it?" One of the Suna-nin next to Gaara asked in amazement of Gaara's skill. Gaara's hand extended, his hand began to close, applying pressure to whoever was under the surface of the sand. There was an explosion, but whether it was the sand imploding under the pressure or something else was completely beyond the ninja gathered around Gaara.
"Hahaha! Gaara-sama! You did it!!" The young ninja pumped his fist in the air, "Not even Kinyōji could stand against Gaara's might!"
The dry desert wind swept the dust cloud away, revealing a large elephant in the center. Upon it's head sat Kinyōji, hunched forward, his legs crossed, the back of Kimono had Kanji with messy strokes upon the back with a circle around it. Placing his foot down, he leaned forward, standing slowly, grains of sand fell from his face, his whole aura went from fearful Nukenin to intense.
"Waaah~! He survived!!" One of the ninja noted, Gaara was the only one out of the whole bunch who seemed unimpressed, his eyes merely narrowed into a glare.
"Pueh! Pueh!! Kaff-kaff!!" Kinyōji broke the tense situation, spitting sand out and shaking it from his hair. He frantically pointed at Gaara, throwing a fit; "Muther--how---do---?! Teach me that fancy sand stuff!!" Kinyōji bellowed.
"You're being a pest...just die...!!" Gaara harshly grunted, he threw his arms out at his sides, causing a wave to shoot outward from the elephant. The sand became loose, causing the massive elephant to sink into the dune below.
"Ah~!" Kinyōji yelped, pushing off of the elephant's head, which promptly exploded into smoke--
He raced forward into the small army of Suna-nin armed with nothing but a kunai--
Later A compacted wad of sand hovered behind Gaara, an arm poked from one side, while Kinyōji's face poked from the front, his shades were half hanging off his face. Grunting, he struggled against the sand that bound him.
"I'm serious--!! This whole thing with Oto is a mistake--!! Would you listen?!" Kinyōji growled, biting down on his teeth, "You can't attack Konoha in these times of peace--!! Hey, would you at least listen to me?! Nn--" He swore under his breath.
"Is that why you left five years ago?" Gaara asked, which unnerved Kinyōji. Gaara didn't talk much, if at all, and he hadn't killed him...yet, and now he was interested on why he was defected from Suna?
"Why's that matter?" Kinyōji grumbled.
"Why did you come back to let us know that an alliance with Oto was a mistake?" He turned his head slightly, looking over at something or someone that was out of Kinyōji's limited view.
"I left for my own reasons."
"Yondaime Kazekage was planning on having you run a suicide mission, wasn't he?" Gaara asked, they approached the administration building with it's spherical top. A platform of sand rose under Gaara, lifting the young ninja up to the balcony of his office, Kinyōji still in tow.
"No such thing for me." Cockiness, he used it in times od discomfort. Being in a gigantic ball of sand, a finger-twitch away from certain death and interrogated by a creepy kid...discomfort was not the beginning of it.
"You were a kid, you were scared of dying, and you ran...that was it, wasn't it?" They descended, the mass of sand that held Kinyōji became undone, dropping the Nukenin on his rear-end. He winced, fixing his shades and rubbing at his butt with a frown.
"Tch, and you are who to think you know so much about me?"
"I'm the Kazekage." Gaara looked down upon Kinyōji with a expression that was hard to decipher. He didn't know what it meant. "As of now you're reinstated as a Chūnin of Suna. I'll have ninja monitoring you, you're on official stand-by for missions."
Kinyōji wandered down the open street, shuffling a bit, there were feelings stirring within him about his sudden reinstatement. There were people he both he wanted to see and avoid altogether due to the years he spent away from the village. He'd failed in getting to Suna sooner, the information he came across was about a year or so late. Just thinking that this could have been all avoided if he had just been paying more attention gnawed at his brain.
He stopped, looking up at the apartment building where he once lived, blinking. He looked down at his balled up fist, opening his hand and looking at his old key which was attached to a keychain of a spherical monster with jagged teeth.
"Hnn~"

♫
Inside her first floor apartment, Tsuya lay on her bare living room floor, nothing but a shag rug in front on the place where her television used to be. She was laid out in an "X", headphones blaring in her ears, eyes planted on the ceiling, mind somewhere beyond in the sky. Only a day before she had had been lazily tutoring her new tutee, and now here she was lying on the floor of her one bedroom, one bath, empty apartment. Everything had been repossessed except the kitchen sink, literally by this point, and her purple shag rug. She shifted her hands behind her head, unable to hear the commotion that had been kicked up with the arrival of a nukenin outside of the gates. Young genin and chunin alike had run to the entrance of the village, anxious to see Gaara-sama in action...
As the early evening began to roll in, blanketing the desert sky with a deep aqua-citrus-wine, wisps of clouds that failed to form gently curving like someone had just flicked a paintbrush across a canvas, Tsuya began to fade. She put her hands behind her head as her felinesque eyes peered up at the tan stucco ceiling, each moment watching it fade to black behind her heavy eyelids.
Knock-knock-knock.
"..."
KNOCK-KNOCK-KNOCK-KNOCK-KNOCK.
"zzzzzz"
"TSUYA-CHAN!"
"zzzzZZZZZZZzz"
Sleeping hard as concrete, speakers blaring in her ear, Tsuya had barely noticed her door being practically pushed off it's hinges. It was Adashino.
The jonin sighed and pushed his trademark glasses up on his slender nose, sniffed, then walked over to the sleeping Tsuya, her mouth slightly open. He squatted, then poked her in her cheek. "Tsu-chan. Get up." Tsuya's eyes opened slowly, but Adashino could tell she wasn't really all there yet. He leaned back and sat on his behind, hands running through her shag carpeting. "C'mon. That's a girl. Wake up for me."
The girl sat up all at once, rubbing her eyes groggily before finally pulling off her headphones and making out Adashino sitting patiently in front of her. "Hiya."
Adashino sighed, then stood to go flip a switch to turn the lights on. It wasn't quite that dark, but he more so wanted to see if they were still working. "I said HIYA." Tsuya retorted, watching him flip on the lights. "Heyheyhey-- I have bills!" Adashino looked around at her empty apartment and shook his head. "When are you gonna let us help you get your stuff back."
"When elephants magically appear. Now, can we not go into this today?" She pushed herself up off of the floor and scratched her head, pulling off her ponytail holder and replacing it on tighter. "What's up? Why you tryna break my door off n'shit?"
By this time, the dark haired male's head was in the fridge looking to see what she had for sustinance, if she had any at all. Nothing. He simply stood back up, looked at her from the kitchen and cleared his throat. How could he say this to her without her freaking...
"Kinyoji's back."
Dust kicked up behind her like a sandstorm as Tsuya's legs flew her toward the main administration building, but before she could make it to the front door, an arm reached out, almost clothes lining her. An ANBU masked face looked down at her, clutching her in his arm. "Hey! What're ya do--!"
"Calm." The voice was simple, soothing, deep. It was Ginko. "I know why you're here--"
"Is it really Kinyoji?" She blurted.
The masked face looked away for a second in silence, then solemnly nodded.
"Well I have to go see--"
"He's not here." Ginko responded, unhanding her.
Tsuya reeled, her eyes wide, a hand on her heart in slight panic. "W--where is he? Don't tell me Gaara--"
"No."
She sighed in immediate relief. Her hand was still clutching her shirt.
"Don't...do it to yourself..." Ginko turned from her and began walking into the administration building. "He's not the same person."
"Did you talk to him? Don't you wanna see him? Don't you have questions!?!?"
Ginko stopped, his face toward the ground. He did have questions. But he wasn't the type to ask them. After a pause, he kept walking and disappeared into the building.
Tsuya finally let go of her shirt, her hands dropping limp at her sides. Did she want to see him? Did she really want to ask him the questions everyone else was afraid to? What if she didn't want to hear the answer? Her stomach was in a knot by this point, but she knew she had to do it. Adashino and Ginko wouldn't, so she would. So, in a mad dash, she ran briskly to the one place where she knew he'd go.

Slipping the key into the knob, he turned it, slipping into the door with a sigh. The door led into a narrow hallway, at the end was a long staircase, halfway up the hallway ws a open doorway that led into the small kitchen. His fingertips grazed the markings that were made with kunai next to the front door, it was here that he and his brother measured their height. He was actually surprised that he had surpassed the last marking.
"Looks like I'm taller than you now, eh, Garasu?" He said with a certain pain in his voice, he reached into his kimono as he started toward the stairs, drawing the same photo that he took from the frame before leaving all those years ago and hopped up the stairs, almost gliding from how familiar he was with them. He slipped into his room, tapping the top of the doorframe out of habit, noticing that everything was exactly as he left it.
But who bothered to keep it this way? Why wasn't all his shit just thrown out and the apartment rented out? Did someone actually think he was coming back?
He stepped into the room, unfolding the photo and grabbing the photo frame from the nightstand. He placed the worn photo in the frame and standing the frame back up with a smirk before plopping down on his undersized bed with a sigh.
"I never noticed how boring this room is...I need some girly posters or somethin'..." Kinyōji muttered under his breath, brushing sand from his shoulder.

Tsuya stood outside the door of the dusty looking home, her hands in her pockets. He was in there. He had to be. But was she really prepared for the repercussions of being the first and maybe the only one from his past he'd get to talk to? Tsuya had never hesitated for anything in her life. At least none of the major things, and this was indeed major.
Tired of standing there mulling over what to do, she quietly pushed into the kitchen and headed up the stairs. When she reached his room, she stopped before entering, just long enough to hear him mumble about girly posters. Ginko didn't know what he was talking about. That was the Kinyoji she knew.
"Can you settle for the real thing?" Her voice called out, preceding her entrance into the room. Tsuya stepped into view, then crossed her arms over her chest as she leaned on the door frame. There was no way he could decipher her face at this point. She was just feeling too much at once.

He lifted his legs, tucking them under each other, sitting Indian style on his bed, looking from the wall to the voice who spoke from the door. He arched a brow, a cartoon-like "?!" popping up from his head. The voice wasn't completely strange to him, she spoke familiar-like, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it when the woman popped up. This definitely wasn't the person who he paired the voice with, their dark skin matched, but 'everything else' seemed...off.
"M'sorry...do I know you?" Kinyōji asked, tilting his head, pointing at Tsuya with a slanted mug. She looked like her, kind of, in the face. It'd been so long since he'd seen Tsuya, since the day he left, five years ago, and she seemed so much smaller then. He couldn't actually believe this...whooboy...was her. "Ah~! Do you live here? My old key still worked, I used to live here a while back, and--"

Tsuya had began to walk toward him as he spoke. Did he really not recognize her? With one motion, she cut his sentence short by swiftly planting a hand across his cheek so hard that he undoubtedly would have gotten whiplash from the impact. She had no control over her reaction, it seemed. She didn't want to hit him. Well, in theory she didn't. But another part of her did. It was as if her body was acting on it's own. Her mouth was curved downward and her golden eyes were burning.
"Why are you back here?" she asked in a voice so low it was almost a whispter. "Why in the hell are you back?" Now she knew what Ginko meant by, "Don't do it to yourself". She had so much resentment and pent up anger harbored toward Kinyoji that it was starting to overflow.

Smacked so hard, the taste flew from his mouth and splatted on the wall. He was left face down on the dusty pillow, grunting and groaning. "Kkkhh--!! F---gghh!!" He placed a hand to his face, pulling his face from his pillow, tears falling onto the pillow, a hand mark on his face.
"Dammit--! Crazy lady--I don't even know--!!" He sat up quickly, coming face to face with Tsuya, his eyes wide, and his mind seemed to wander to somewhen else. A time where he was sitting alone and a young brown girl would sneak up on him and prod his ribs without mercy. A time where they would play fight out back the academy and Kinyōji would actually lose. His eyes moved back and forth between both of her yellow irises, the familiarity hit him like bricks. "You..."
"Ts...Tsuya-chan...?"

"Oh. So now you know who I am." She hissed, grabbing him by his collar and lifting him from the bed to his feet. She growled a little as she did, trying to hold her anger back. There was so much she didn't know and that she wanted explained. And there was much she had to be the one to tell him. Now she really knew why Adashino and Ginko didn't come. It wasn't that they would be too angry. It was because they would have to be the ones to break the news. "You have a butt load of 'splaining to do," she said between gritted teeth. With more strength than he would have remembered, she tossed him back on the bed.
"Why are you back, where have you been, and what were you thinking."

This was exactly what he'd been avoiding, now he felt like crap now, yet he found it funny how she sneaked up on him even when she didn't mean to. He fell onto the bed, shutting an eye, looking down before his head rose, looking at her with a smirk. "I don't know what I came to do...I wasn't sure what I wanted when I decided I had to..." Kinyōji trailed off, he looked out of the small window, scratching the back of his neck, putting up one of his feet.
"I came across some information while I was...ya'know...out there. Oto and Suna...the whole attack...possible war...and even though I left Suna, I knew that Suna wasn't going to benefit...I left it and it was weak, ya'know? Even with Oto, which I heard some shit about...an attack on Konoha wasn't what Suna needed..." Kinyōji sighed before continuing, "Which brings me back to the question of why I came back. I hadn't gotten that far...I just wanted to make sure that you, Mei-Mei and the others were okay...but when I got here, I knew there was only one sure-fire way to put the alliance away..."
"To kill Yondaime Kazekage."
"But, yeah...apparently I was a year too late...and Yondaime's not 'round no more for exactly the same reason why I came back." Kinyōji smiled wide, looking up at Tsuya. "I'm starving, though. Wanna' go get somethin' to eat?" How could he act like no time had passed at all? As if they just saw each other yesterday?

Was he serious?
Not that she could say this was out of character for Kinyoji. She always knew him to be a stand up guy who was a bit of a punk when it came to stuff like that, but he up and left? All of them? She narrowed her eyes on him as he spoke, and at the mention of Kyomei, her chest was struck with grief and pain, making her cringe as if someone had shot an arrow in her heart.
Her face darkened a bit. It wasn't her place to be his mother and reprimand him. That would be Kyomei's job.
"Well hell."
Tsuya sighed, then reluctantly extended her hand to help him up off the bed. "I guess...we can get something. And...I think you're gonna need some sake in your system."

"So..." Kinyōji stood from the bed, draping an arm around Tsuya, "when'd you grow those?" He asked, pointing a place he had no business pointing.
They were sitting at a bar, a place known as the red lounge. The side of Kinyōji's face was swollen and pinched between his fingers was a shot glass, on the right of him was Tsuya putting hers back. "Didn't have to hit me that hard..." Kinyōji muttered, lifting the small glass up, the sharp stench hit the back of his nose, causing him to wince. "Kuh..." The ninja grunted, he had no tolerance for liquor, yet, Tsuya insisted on coming here.
Tossing the sake back, he let out a loud, long grunt, shutting his eyes tight as he lolled back and forth. He slammed his glass down, his brow twitched and trembled, he fixed his shades and ran his fist across his nose. "So...like I wuz seyin'~" it hit him quick, the liquor didn't even bother to sneak up on him.
"Whut wuz I seyin'...??"

Tsuya tossed her head back with the shot to insure the horrid liquid went down on the first go. It was disgusting. But no one drank sake for the taste, right? When she was done, she poured herself another shot, then waited for Kinyoji to place his glass down so she could pour him one as well.
"You were saying something about me hitting you. And I was just about to say--" she answered, filling his glass to the brim. "--too fucking bad. You deserved it." She'd taken back three shots by this time, so she started to slow down. Tsuya knew her tolerance. She motioned for a waitress to come over to their table.
"Yes ma'am?"
"Bring us some shishito peppers, will ya'? And a cigar. One for each of us." The woman nodded, and then eep'd as Tsuya smacked her ass when she walked off.
"So, Kin-kun. Suna change much since you left?" She watched him sway in his drunken stupor. What the hell? This guy couldn't hold his liquor for nothing. She was tempted to be a good friend and take that other shot from him, but maybe he needed to be drunk as a skunk for what she was about to tell him. Maybe that's why she was drinking so hard herself.

"Nah...seems like nothin' changes..."
Kinyōji gripped the cup, pinching it tight, wincing his eyes. He'd been dodging asking, he told himself he wouldn't ask about her, but now that he was drunk, he couldn't help it. "So, how is she?" Kinyōji asked, watching as the waitress wandered off after having her hind-end smacked by Tsuya which in and of itself was both shocking and hot at the same time. "Has Ran wifed her up, yet? Have a small litter of kids runnin' around...?" He tossed the drink back, as if he were trying to hurt himself for even thinking such a thought.
"Fuuuuck~" He groaned, slamming the glass down again, his face twisting and contorting.

So, he really didn't know.
Tsuya took her fourth shot back. Oh boy. She was pushing it. Before she could answer, the woman came back with their roasted peppers and cigars. Tsuya took one and sat the other one in front of Kinyouji. She was gonna need this tonight. Only alcohol and nicotine could prepare her for what she was about to say. She let the question linger in the air awhile before smelling and lighting the cigar. "Kin-kun...I don't know how to say this..." she mumbled before taking a long drag, letting the smoke flow freely from her nostrils. The longer she waited, the harder it got to say it. She didn't want to. She hadn't said it before...ever.
Cigar laced between her middle and index finger, she picked up the sake bottle, poured Kinyoji another shot, then took the rest of what was in the bottle to the head. Fuck it. She needed to be as inebriated as hell to do this.
...
"Ran is dead."

He could always hide behind his shades, always.
His head dropped slowly, looking down at the glass she had just poured him, the red vanity lights in the dim bar reflected off the lenses. He bit down on his teeth, threw back his head and tossed the drink in his mouth before hacking up a lung. He dry heaved, his eyes watering and his brow twitching. He went to go place the glass down and dropped it on it's side, a small stream of what he left spilled onto the table. The pain was visible on his face as his head rose, reaching over and taking the bottle while biting into the pepper and motioning for the waitress to bring him another bottle.
"What about her? Where's she at...?"
