How would he cope with the reality that was today without them?
"I'm leaving in search of a friend." Kinyōji spoke, placing a hand upon the Kazekage's desk, looking down upon Gaara with a frown. The office fell silent, and the boy's teal irises glared up at Kinyōji in slight annoyance, they stood there for a few moments, but unlike most who feared Gaara, Kinyōji's glare was almost...insulting.
"I re-instated you to be here for when you're needed." The Kazekage spoke, "motion for search is denied. You're dismissed." With a wave of his hand, he commanded Kinyōji to leave his office.
"I wasn't asking." Kinyōji's eyes narrowed upon Gaara, "someone close to me is out there and I'm going to find them with or without your permission." With that, he chucked a deuce, turning away and heading toward the door.
"Wait." Gaara called out, his eyes shifted to the corner of the room where one of his guards stood. "If you do this, you'll do this on my terms. You'll meet with a person I assign you to lead this mission, understand?"
"I work best alone." He waved his hands, insisting he go alone.
"This isn't a negotiation. I don't trust you, you'll need someone to watch over you while you're out there." Gaara said bluntly, waving his hand.
"Yeah, whatever..." Kinyōji muttered, turning away, moving into a stride through the open doorway, shutting it behind him, and not in a nice manner, either. It wasn't so much a slam, he just closed it all...harshly. He glanced back at the door before heading up the hallway, muttering something under his breath.
"Creepy kid."
"Maybe I shouldn't have left without saying anything..." Kinyōji muttered, staring up at the sun that hung above, he waited just outside the village, a large backpack on his back. He yawned, thinking about how he suddenly left Tsuya's house, "Maaaaan, this sucks...stupid...Gaara and his stupid...not trusting people...!" He grumbled, kicking sand, here he was, waiting for this person he was to be assigned to conduct a search with and talking to himself.

"OI. That's how you repay a girl for a night on the town?" a familiar voice would call from behind him. It was Tsuya. And with her was another familiar face, walking in his direction.
"Hey, hey. Kinyoji-san." It was a spectacled Adashino waving calmly in the distance. The feline woman stood next to him, then punched him in his arm with enough force to knock him over. Not on purpose, of course. ;3 "You little sneaky bastard. You thought you were gonna skip town on us again? No way."
Adashino caught up and joined them, taking off his glasses to clean them, then setting them back upon his nose. "This time, we're coming with you."

"Kkhh--!" Kinyōji turned, looking over his shoulder to see Tsuya approaching with Adashino. He timidly waved back to the approaching ninja before he was knocked on his tuckis by a swift punch from Tsuya. She was joking, but the woman didn't know her own strength.
"Ora...can you not talk so loud...?" Kinyōji muttered, standing from the sand, brushing his pants off with a groan. He was hungover, he didn't want to admit it, but he was. He scratched his head, then thought about it, pointing at Tsuya then Adashino.
"W...wait. You're the ones that little shrimp assigned to keep an eye on me?" Kinyōji asked, his eyes wide, the dry desert wind swept over them, he pondered it. It worked out better if it was someone he knew, right? Adashino was the one who investigated her disappearance, so it made sense that he be here, too. It all clicked.
"Ah...okay," Kinyōji looked over at Adashino with a half-smile, "we should go to her last known whereabouts, I guess."
It was time to set out on a search, they could only wonder where this search would lead them.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa. Hold yer horses." Tsuya said, grabbing Kinyoji's shoulder with a hand. "You know we've investigated this before, right? What makes you think we're gonna find anything new at the scene after all these years?" Tsuya held out her other hand to Adashino, and he pulled an old scroll from his flack vest and dropped it in it.
"This, my friend, is one piece of the puzzle," she said, shaking it in front of him at eye level. "We start with this."

Kinyōji's eyes narrowed behind his tinted lenses, focusing on the scroll before he tilted his head, his gaze landing upon the woman who held it before him with slender fingers. He plucked the scroll from her grasp, examining it shortly, almost hesitant to open it. If it was what he thought it was, it was probably some sort of record of what was found out in the investigation. Of course there had to be some sort of log of what they found, why wouldn't there be? He had to admit to himself, there was something in him that just...wanted to be where he knew she had been last for whatever reason in hopes that some miracle would hit him or that he would catch something after years had past that they didn't.
It was a fool's ambition, but Kinyōji was no stranger to being a fool, especially over Kyōmei. It was only rational to assume that any and all evidence that was there, if it were there, would be gone. Non-existent. Swept away with time much like footprints in the sand. He brushed his thumb against the parchment, plucking up the edge and unrolling it, taking a good long look at it's contents.

Tsuya began walking out the gate, along with Adashino. "It's the report Ginko brought back when they investigated her "death". The case was about to be closed, but I guess when we told Gaara what you were probably up to, he allowed an extension, and access to all the information we needed."
Adashino narrowed his eyes on the sand below as he walked. "The only catch is..." he began, hesitating for a moment. "...the higher ups are looking for Mei-chan as a nukenin."
Tsuya cut her eye at Adashino. She had to break the news about Ran and Kyomei, so it was only fair he'd have to break the story behind her disappearance to Kinyoji. "They think she's linked to a man named Isutoshi."
Tsuya stopped in her tracks when the man's name was mentioned. "But we know better. Mei-chan wouldn't breathe the same air as that bastard."

Kinyōji examined the documentation, motioning to Adashino while doing so. "You got a file on this dude?" Adashino reached forward with another scroll which Kinyōji took without looking, laying the new parchment over the first and unrolling it, skimming over it.
"So, we look for this dude first..." Kinyōji muttered under his breath, he was pretending like he hadn't heard his name before in the windy desert that whispered so frequently. He'd spent years out here, he was connected, he knew where to look first. "We don't have any leads." Adashino admitted, "this search is pretty much blind without any leads..."
"Okay, I think I know a place." Kinyōji tossed the scrolls to Adashino, who caught them in his arms with a puzzled expression. "Just--keep up." He said with a smirk, his body was gone, and a cloud of dust rose where he once was. He darted across the dunes at high speed.
"Huh...you better stick close...he may be working for someone else." Adashino pushed the glasses up onto the bridge of his nose, he knew Tsuya was much faster than he was and he still had a slight distrust for Kinyōji. A much warranted one. He was far from blind, his specs made sure of that, and that extended to his trust, as well.

Tsuya frowned seriously at Adashino, not really knowing what he was thinking. It had never crossed her mind once that they couldn't trust Kinyoji, but she decided that she trusted Adashino's judgement too.
She nodded, then ran ahead with Kinyoji, Adashino following behind.
today, cont'd.
