"Seriously, Kate. What kind of guy cancels his own honeymoon for a business trip? I just don't want to see you get hurt out of all of this, girl." Lisa craned her head to look over at her friend, whose head was turned opposite of her, purposely, might I add. Light brown eyes rolled as a smirk played upon her lips in response to her best friend's banter. They just don't get it. And they never will. "It's no big deal, Lisa, really. I swear...everyone is trippin' off of this honeymoon situation worse than either one of us. I knew there was the possibility that it might happen. I'm cool with it, really." Lisa seemed to shrug as Kate arrived at the base of her stoop, the pair of them stopping to part ways. "Seriously, though, girl. You're a stronger woman than I am. How do you do it?" Kate shrugged her slender shoulders, shifting the groceries in her arms. "Trust makes you strong."
The inside of the house was warm, the heat kept at a comfortable 76-degrees. It was oddly clean, serene with a hint of loneliness tinting those egg-cream walls with their burgundy trim. The lean, sable German Shepherd occupying the runner near the door raised its black-masked head, wagging a bushy tail in greeting before placing his head back down upon his paws. Kate never understood how anyone could see her as lonely. She had her family. She had her friends. She had her dog, and her many, many small pets. And most importantly, she had her Jimi. A modestly manicured finger reached over to press the button on the answering machine, the red dot next to it blinking frantically as if trying to grab her attention from the groceries, the mail and the dog. Only one message. As soon as his voice filled the room from the centralized speaker, she felt her heart flutter a bit, a wide grin passing her lips. He hadn't called that long ago. She could still catch him.
Sliding up the screen on her phone, fingers quickly navigated the keypad, punching in the phone number she had all too quickly memorized, its ten digits branded into the backs of her eyes. Turning and flopping down almost playfully onto the couch, she drew her knees up to her chest and waited for the click of the phone being picked up, for that voice to recoil through her ears just the way she wanted it to.

"Fuck. Jimi... how do you do it? I mean, you canceled your honeymoon to come over here to Cali for "business"." Kevin smirked just before soaking up the shot of whiskey on the counter before him. Jimi pursed his lips in annoyance, raising the bottle of Guiness to his mouth and taking two gulps of beer. He angled his body to face Kevin, resting his head onto his fist. "Kevin... we work together. You know how important this account is. There are thousands of dollars riding on this."
"I know, but c'mon, we're in Cali. You can't tell me you're not interested in getting some pussy." Jimi raised a brow, shaking his head slowly, as he started facing forward again. "Look. We only have one day left here, right? If for some reason I need anything or whatever--I can wait a day."
"Haha! You're a fucking liar."
Brown eyes stared up at the ceiling of his one bed room hotel room. The TV standing on the dresser across from the bed was blank. The room was silent. The curtains were closed, obscuring view the high rise provided to downtown LA. None of that was important to him. Jimi bothered not to take off his suit or even his shoes. A hand rested just above his head, and the other lay on his stomach.
He was awaiting something. A set of waves from across the country. A voice that he'd been longing to hear for a week. The voice he'd canceled a honeymoon for.
Drop it like it's hoooot--
The sound of rap music cued the man to quickly sit up, jamming his hand into his pocket, and pulling his cell phone out. He flipped it open, identifying who it was just by the sound of the ringtone.
"Kate! ... Kate. Babe... how are you?" he asked, smiling on his end, imaging her face clear in his mind. "I missed you."

There was the click. Kate held her breath as there was the brief pause. And then relief washed over her like an oceanic wave. "Kate! ... Kate. Babe... how are you?" "I missed you."
She clung to those words, clutched them close as she fell back on the couch, letting her head hit the throw pillows, still holding the phone up to her ear. She felt like the child whose father was calling them from afar. Giddy. Excited. Tickled pink. A blush spread across the bridge of her nose as she closed her eyes briefly, imagining he was already home, standing in the living room and speaking these words, arms spread wide for a hug and briefcase on the floor. "Ohhh, Jimi!" she practically purred, stretching out. "I miss you, too. The girls at the hospital never seem to remind me of how far away you are..." She twirled a lock of her hair on her finger and rolled over, so she was facing off the side of the couch. "But you know it's all good. I'm looking forward to you coming home, though."
It was all old-hat for her now. It had been this way from the day they met. Somehow, it worked for her, though. And for Jimi also. "How is California?" she asked, shifting a bit so that she was lying on her stomach. "I mean, I know it's not as good as it could be with a little extra Kate in it..."

"You're right. Actually... California sucks without a little Kate in it." he said as he looked over his shoulder at the curtains that blocked the window. He glew with happiness, smiling widely, overjoyed to just hear her breathe. "We just closed the account, and I'm gonna be back home in a few hours. Hell, I might be there by the time you wake up!"
He slung himself back down onto the bed, continuing to state up at the ceiling, not even saying much on the phone. He was satisfied just like this. Being on the same line with her. This was wholeness. Jimi + Kate = 1. :]
"Babe, you ready for our honeymoon? Promise I won't cancel this time."
